How to send a message even when receiver is offline?

Armani Mayert:

Is it possible to send a message to someone who has their PC off or asleep and when it is turned back on they can read the message?

Gabe Dare:

This messenger doesn't support this option. Some others do. Please check https://messenger.softros.com

LAN Messenger command line

Lori Lesch:

hello, is it possible to send messages to LAN Messenger from command line?

Emelie Rosenbaum:

Could you be more specific please, do you mean can you send another user messages or do you wish to send commands to LAN messenger?

Thanks

Kylie Conn:

Sorry to hijack this somewhat, but perhaps I can clarify.

We would like to automate sending messages from another process.

For example, using an external UI to send pre-fabricated messages via LAN messenger. A receptionist doesn't want to type the same message every day to different people, so she has a button that automatically sends the message.

/usr/bin/lan-messenger "office3" "Your package has arrived"

(Send the message "your package has arrived" to the computer named "office3")

LAN messenger missing clients

Marvin Witting:

I have noticed since our workstations have been upgrading to Windows 10 Creators Edition, LAN Messenger has been slow to bring up the Contacts List and is also missing some contacts. Does this have to do with the nixing of SMB 1.0? My subnet is 192.168.111.0/24 and the default multicast address is set to 239.255.100.100 TCP/UDP port 50000.

Thanks for any help.

LAN messenger Silent/Remote Installation

Mohammad Dooley:

Hi!
Is there a way to install this software remotely with no interaction from the end user? I am using EMCO to deploy software.  Thanks for your Help!

Bertha Ritchie

USSF shows that it's a regular NSIS installer & detected /S switch. (Check also.)
We chose to deploy via GPP conditional file copy + public desktop shortcut + initial user %appdata% .ini file to silence it a little:
[SystemTray]
SingleClickTray=true
AllowMinimize=true
MinimizeMsg=false
SysTrayMsg=false

[Locale]
Language=ru_RU

[SoundEvents]
1\Event=2
2\Event=0
3\Event=0
4\Event=2
5\Event=2
6\Event=2
size=6

Lan Messenger Application Error

Matt:

When I launch Lan Messenger, I get an Application error: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click OK to terminate the application. Any ideas why this is happening? I have several other computers that are working fine. Thanks!
Benita J. Decamp:
Does it happen on just one computer? How often does this occur?
ginobuonpanino:
It happens even in my pcs (2 pc mounting windows xp pro) ?
Benita J. Decamp:
Does it occur randomly? Or does it always occur when you do something specific? Please list the steps you did when you got this error.

Tahmaseeb:

It doesn't work in Windows 10, i have installed it in windows 7 and its working fine. but i couldn't run it in any of the XP pro mounted windows. any fix will be appreciated.
Benita J. Decamp:
Could you send me the application logs? Next time the app crashes, go to "%LocalAppData%\LAN Messenger\LAN Messenger\logs" folder and get the five latest files and send them to me. This will help me diagnose the issue.

Tahmaseeb:

well, i checked the log folder you told me about, it was empty. for all the Windows XP Pro i installed it on the same thing, every time i try to start the application this is the error i get
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click OK to terminate the application.
Claude W:

I solved this problem by downloading the previous version lmc-1.2.10-win32.exe , from where are the old files.--

Suerte..
Benita J. Decamp:
Hmm, that's interesting from a technical point of view. Version 1.2.10 and earlier used certain libraries provided by Microsoft, whereas newer versions use open source libraries. Perhaps they have some incompatibility with Windows 10. This gives me a new direction to investigate.
Harry:
The solution just install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 or 2010 Redistributable.
That's its.

Messenger doesn't see other users when installed

Vinoj:

i INSTALLED VERSION 1.2.35 ON OUR NETWORK. sOME MACHINES, WE SEE ALL THE USERS, BUT SOME MACHINES WE DO NOT SEE THE OTHER INSTALLED USERS.

Cannot change - LAN messenger broadcast address, UDP port, TCP port

Eleanor R. Moore:

Good Day from down under

On this page - https://messenger.softros.com/help/subnets/

Its says you can change

What is broadcast address, UDP port, TCP port etc?

Broadcast address is used for network wide communications. You can edit it to include a smaller subnet. UDP and TC ports are communication endpoints used to identify a specific address. Follow these links to know more.

But I found you cant, as I have almost 40 years experience with C I fixed this myself.

What is best way for me so send updated code to source code 'owners' ?

David P. Smith:

The best way is fork & pull request on github.

Eunice A. Shaw:

Could you post your file edits and then at least I can recompile the executable?

How to Transfer Files Over LAN?

Evelina K. Mayville:

Hello 2 all,

I've installed Lanmessenger on my 2008 r2 server, and obviously the clients get it through policies, but I have a problem.

File transfers from administrator to client doesn't work, cause clients are not allowed to write on C:, and so I suppose that lanmessenger write temp file on c: during the transfer.

Is there a way to setup the temp directory, in a target directory where clients are allowed to write?

Thank you.
Sorry for poor english, I hope my question is clear.

Gordon E. Lewis:

If the users have access to a personal drive, you can point LAN messenger there.

I can't see people online

Janet R. Castagna

How come i cannot see user/contacts online? how to setup the network?

Marie J. Wagner

Hi Janet

Could you please be a bit more specific? Have you installed the LAN messenger on two devices within the same Local Area Network?

Check this video guide. Thanks.

Ubuntu LAN messenger

Mary J. Weiss:

Got lan messenger installed en running, but i see no tray icon, and no lan messenger main screen with contacts etc.

Joyce M. Bailey:

LAN messenger. How to increase security?

Marcello Conti:

Hello everyone. First of all just comment that this lan messaging application is excellent. Now I would like to make a query to see if anyone has the same concern and see what possibility there is to be able to do it.
Is it possible to prevent users from deleting the history from the application ?, blocking the delete history button? Any administrative settings?

Thank you very much to all! Congratulations to the team!

Version 1.2.37

Ropkus:

Hi,
great to hear about the update to LAN Messenger!

I'd like to get an idea what has changed from 1.2.35 to 1.2.37, is there a changelog available?

I've installed the new version on a client with Windows 7 Pro x64 but when I start lmc.exe I get an error saying libeay32.dll is missing.

Also I've noticed that the size of lmc.exe has heavily increased compared to the old version (the old one was 1.7 MB, the new one is nearly 50 MB). What's the reason for this?

Marco:

I've done a bit of Googling, and the Libeay32.dll file is related to OpenSSL and secure communication over networks. I'm curious too to see the ChangeLog, as it seems strange to need SSL communication over a LAN connection?

Helper:

The Qt was updated from 4.8 to 5.5.1 static build. That is why .exe size increased. The Qt dll are included in the exe now. Th Qt size is larger with each version, and static build allow to save some bytes.

Yes, it is openssl. The messenger use it for encrypting messages. openssl also must be linked statically (dll is embedded in exe), but something went wrong...

Ropkus:

Hey admin,
thanks for your answers.

Any chance to get a changelog? Did you perhaps fix the problem that the program frequently crashes?

Helper:

There is one big change Qt 4.8 -> Qt 5.5.1
I don't want to move further before updating framework and libraries. Some errors may be fixed there.

libeay32.dll error fixed, installer updated.

Subsin:

How can i get lan messenger on ubuntu amd64

Helper:

Ubuntu 16.10 Can you run 'lmc' in Terminal to see error?

How To Build LAN Messenger from Source Code?

Basil  Wushuri:

Hello Everyone Here, As I am beginner, this LAN Messenger Project helps me a lot to learn cool things in C++, and as this Project is available for all the major platforms, it really helps me a lot ...lot of new things about different platforms.
I have made various programs in Visual C++, mostly are console application, I also tried my hands on GUI but very basic with 2-3 source files(ex-calculator), but i am am not familiar with these type of source code(with multiple source and UI files) I want to know the whole step by step process to build LAN Messenger from source code, for windows, if possible please also tell the process for debian.

If possible please add some good references.
I am waiting for the reply.

Helper:

I am not sure about MSVC. I used Qt creator with included mingw. Here is general steps:

I prefer to build lan messenger using static Qt libs, but it is not trivial to build static Qt libs with webkit.
Here is start point for building static Qt:
Webkit:

OR- You can also use shared Qt.

Basil  Wushuri:

But I am Using Visual studio 2015 community
