PC to PC messaging

Woodrow Gaylord:

I have two computers that I wish to be able to use a messenger on to talk to
each other.
As such I am looking for a free (if there is one) LAN messenger.
Does anyone know where (if there is one) I could get hold of such a program.
Or if there is no free programs about how much would I have to pay for a
decent one.
Or if all else fails is there a way to do it with windows.

Woodrow Gaylord:

Thanks for the reply Carey, unfortunately due to my ignorance and technical
deficiencies (and possibly having sp2)  I am unable to get it to work.
Thanks any way for your help

Monserrat Glover:

Sir, You could try  Softros messenger for Lan Chat. The best Lan
Messenger software having many features like Lan Chat, Group Chat, Desktop
Sharing, and File transfer. Download it here https://messenger.softros.com/downloads/

MSN Messenger as Lan Messenger

Gabriella Christiansen:

I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard somewhere that you can configure
MSN messenger to login in via Active directory accounts to act as a lan
messenger? is this true? if so where can i read up more on it?

Thanks

Esther Gleason:

Greetings,
I'm afraid it's not true.  The only way to really do this with Messenger is to use Windows
Messenger coupled with either an Exchange 2000 IM Server or Live Communications Server.

LAN chat app lot of logging in and out

Madeline Hermann:

Hi Guy's.

What can cause some users to log in and out automaticly. That happens several times per day. They don't restart their computer or anything else like that.

Thanks.

Magnus Mertz:

Changing of IP address, VPN client for example

Jackie McCullough:

Happening to us too. Noticed it if the user is on Windows 10. they go online and offline several times a day. any ideas for a fix?

Hertha Jerde:

It's true what you say, my friend, the same thing happens to me in widnows 10
What I can recommend and what I do is disable LAN Messenger notifications
That's in Settings, Systems, Notifications and Actions.

LAN Messenger cross subnets

Carson Reichert:

dear all,
i have used LAN Messenger since 2 years, now i want to connecting cross subnet, for example:
network A --> 192.168.1.0/24
network B --> 192.168.2.0/24
so how to way?

thanks a lot

Obie Cormier:

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, hope this is still relevant! I had to do something similar. You need to edit the LAN Messeger.ini located in C:\Users\#Username\AppData\Roaming\LAN Messenger
In here you can include the extra ip's you wish for the program to forward to.

I'm not sure if this is the best solution, but it works for me. In the .ini put
[BroadcastList]
1\Broadcast=10.19.0.255
size=3
2\Broadcast=10.1.3.14

(Increase this as you go along, so the next would be 3\Broadcast=10.1.3.15 and so on).

Hope this helps.

Hans Beahan:

here is a guide for connecting subnets https://messenger.softros.com/help/subnets/

The principles are the same on every messaging app.

Karli Cassin:

If I need to connect 2 networks accross de internet, what woulb be the steps?

1. Open port 50000 on network nº2
2. Add public ip of network nº2 to Broadcast list or Multicast List?

Thanks

Fabiola Mitchell:

Hi,

Is there any other solution?

I have various vlan connected by a firewall. I do rules to allow communication in port 50000 in all vlans. I can do ping between vlans but no message arrive.

installedx the .deb package on linux mint 19. messenger does not start up

Dewayne McGlynn:

Hello Everyone.
I installed LAN Messenger on linux int 19 as the title says, but it will not start. The program shows up in the list, but when I click it the wheel spins for a minute then nothing.
Please help.

Cordie Ebert:

this software is really old so it will not compatible anymore with newest linux distros.
I recommend to consider BeeBeep. Their developer always update his app.

Ubuntu on Virtualbox

Jordane Hodkiewicz:

Hi, I've tried to install Lan Messenger Client in an Ubuntu 16.04.4 running in a Virtualbox but I can't see any contact of the network in the contact list.

The virtual machine is connecting using to the network using NAT configuration and it's running in a Windows 10 computer as a host.

Also, installing LMC in the host machine works just fine.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Lan Messenger on Terminal server

Alfonzo Beahan:

Hello Everyone,  can we use the LAN Messenger on a terminal server? I always got the message with address conflict.
Best regards.

Irma Ward:

This messenger doesn't support Terminal Services compatibility.
I saw only commercial versions with TS support.
